This Week at Discovery Green: Salmonella

Posted by Monica Danna on Oct 14, 2008 in arts + events

dgcc

Ok, only halfway kidding. Yes, a few of us that collided with culture last week at Discovery Green, also collided with some bad culture: some of the food did not sit well with our tummies.  We self-diagnosed as salmonella poisoning due to our simialr symptoms, which can be caused by improperly prepared or served food.

No worries, though. This was an external vendor that was brought in, not food from the Lakehouse or the Grove.  And of course not to take away from the fabulous event put on by Fresh Arts and HYPA. Seriously, it happens people. And we are all still alive.

No hard feelings, DG. And here is your weekly schedule of events to prove that.

Culture Collision III

Posted by Monica Danna on Oct 7, 2008 in arts + events

Culture is certainly colliding these days in Houston. Like nothing I’ve ever seen, in all my, ahem, 30 years. :-)   Over the last year, I’ve witnessed an enormous boom of art, music, technology and community.  From organizations such as Caroline Collective, Fresh Arts, Spacetaker, and Houston Young Professionals for the Arts,

I’ve gotten to know the people behind these organizations, champions for the arts such as Mandy Graessle, Jerome Veilman, David Brown, Heather Pray, Ned Dodington, and Matthew Wettergreen; and I can honestly say that judging from the passion and dedication that these people possess, the love they have for this city, and the lengths they go to to spread it,  the State of the Houston Art Union is strong and thriving.

I’m so incredibly proud, every day,  to call this city HOME.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon, please join many of these organizations, and many more, to celebrate this coming together of community in the arts.

See you there, peeps!
